How To Make A Braveheart Costume
If you choose to go the make your own costume route, then you will probably save a little bit of money, assuming you don’t have to buy the parts for the costume. To make your William Wallace costume look as authentic as possible then follow the guide below:
1. You need some plaid cloth to make the kilt with. This is very important. Not everybody has plaid cloth lying around the house so you may well have to buy or borrow some. You could of course simply get yourself a plaid kilt, or an actual tartan kilt for the costume, it’s up to you. If you go for the cloth then you can tie it together by using safety pins. You’ll probably need some help to attach it.
2. Make a choice early on if you’re going to dress up as a “real Scotsman” or not, if you know what i’m talking about.
3. Your socks should be the exact same as the plaid cloth or tartan kilt. However, i would cut off the actual feet part of the socks so it actually just looks like cloth wrapped around your ankles and lower leg.
4. Wear brown leather sandals.
5. You need a faux leather brown waistcoat. You can decide if you would like this to expose the arms.
6. It would be cool if you could also get some faux leather arm cuffs and also some faux leather shin guards.
7. A plaid or tartan shawl is also essential to get the look right. This should also be in the same color, style as the kilt.
8. Now for the fun part, the accessories. You really need to get yourself a Braveheart wig, which you’ll find available at the link above. Remember that the sword is optional but would certainly add a warrior look to your costume.
9. Finally, to really go the extra mile then paint your face in the Scottish colors of blue and white. This will really make you look fierce, just like Braveheart in the movie.
Remember that you can dress up no matter how old you are, there are Brave heart costumes for kids as well as for men.
