2. Slurring your speech.

3. Flailing your arms around uncontrollably.

4. Engaging in trickery, cowardice and deceit.

1. Brown boots.

2. A long sleeved puffy white buttoned shirt.

Pirate Theme Party Ideas For Kids And Adults

Pirate parties are back in fashion and are popular with kids and adults alike thanks to the Pirates of the Caribbean series and Captain Jack Sparrow. If you’re thinking of throwing your very own pirate theme party then these pirate party ideas are sure to inspire you.

Don’t neglect your invitations. They are an integral part of any theme party. They serve to get your guests excited from an early stage. Print out pictures of a skull and crossbones, Captain Jack Sparrow, a pirate ship, a sword, a parrot or even a nasty looking pirate with eye patch and no teeth. Cut them out and write your invites on the back.

Another idea would be to soak your invitations in tea and leave them to dry. This will make the paper look aged. Then write your invitation and singe the corners. Finish them by rolling them into scrolls and tying a ribbon to keep them together.

As well as sending out physical invitations to your guests you should also always create a pirate party Facebook group and invite all your guests to join. Many people can not be bothered to mail you a reply but accepting a request on Facebook is very easy. Having a Facebook group will also increase your attendance as all your guests will be able to see exactly who is invited and how popular your party is going to be. You can also use your Facebook group to upload all your videos and photos once the party has finished, you’ll be able to tag all your guests in them. This will be a permanent reminder of your pirate party.

Pirate Party Costumes

Dressing up for your pirate party is an absolute must. In fact you should state on your invites that dressing up is compulsory as this is half the fun. Here is the best place to go for Pirate Party Costumes!

Alternatively you can make your own costume with some ease. Consider some of these ideas, pick and choose from the list in order to make up a good costume:

1. Find some light blue jeans that you don’t mind cutting up and cut them from the knees. It really will be best if these jeans are old and faded, which will make you look like you’ve been spending time on the seven seas.

2. Get a stripey t-shirt, use scissors to make the edges jagged.

3. Create a belt by finding some fabric or a thin scarf to thread through the loops. A short piece of rope will even do for your pirate belt.

4. Create an eye patch using black cardboard and a rubber band or elastic.

5. Use a black marker pen to create a moustache or beard. How about a black eye? You could also color one of your front two teeth black. Use make up or soot to dirty up your face a little. For further effect you can use a red marker to create scars or blood.

6. Bandannas are a must, red is the best color.

7. Do you have a toy parrot? Use safety pins to attach it to your shoulder!

8. If you want to go to the party as the main man, then take a look at our page on Jack Sparrow costumes!

Pirate Party Decoration Ideas

There are many great decoration ideas for pirate parties! The more you have the more authentic your party will feel. If you have a budget then here is the best place you can go for Pirate Party Decorations! Otherwise you can make your own. Pick and choose from the list below:

1. The best colors for pirate decorations are black, white and red. Get balloons in these colors and place around your venue.

2. The most obvious thing people think about for decorations is the Jolly Roger AKA the skull and crossbones flag. You can get Jolly Roger flags in many sizes. How about getting a large one to place on a pole outside your venue.

3. Have you an old chest that perhaps you keep linen etc inside? Take this to your venue!

4. Have you an old copper, nickle or dime jar that’s bursting to the brim? You could display this near your chest or else tip the jar up and have half the contents scattered around!

5. Get some miniature pirate flags on tooth picks to stick in your pirate sandwiches.

6. The little things like pirate streamers, paper plates, cups and table cloths can be bought for cheap from supermarkets or otherwise online.

7. Do you have any rum bottles? Place them around for display purposes.

8. You should also get as many gold chocolate coins as your budget will allow for. You can use them as currency throughout the party. You should place them amongst and between the coins from your copper jar.

Pirate Party Games

The most obvious pirate party game would be to have a treasure hunt. Treasure hunts can keep both kids and adults occupied for hours. You can have 2 teams and have a competition to see which team finishes first or have everybody working as one team. Either way, a treasure hunt creates bonding, sets a challenge and you could have a prize at the end; your buried treasure being the prize! The only problem is that setting up a treasure hunt can take hours and hours and you’ll have to think up lots of clever little rhymes and puzzles that are challenging enough to keep everyone interested. Fortunately i’ve found a down-loadable Treasure Hunt Game that automates everything for you! It’s super quick to set up, in fact all you do is select which clues to go for and you string along your treasure hunt in links of clues, rhymes or puzzles. The clues are really clever and you can have the game last as long or short as you wish.

Pirate Party Music

Music is an important part of any party, it’s especially important for pirate theme parties since it helps you to feel like a pirate for the evening. It’s worth spending a bit of time downloading a few great songs onto your ipod. You can of course find a great CD, there are many on Amazon with pirate themes to them. If you choose to download a few individual classics, or if you can’t wait for the delivery from Amazon then here is a good short list for you:

1. The Legend of Davy Jones – David Jeremiah

2. Shiver My Timbers – David Wise

3. Yo, Ho, Ho and a Bottle of Rum – Craig Toungate

4. Blow the Man Down – Allen Robertson

5. The Pirate King – David Wise

6. Pirates of the Black Tide – David Wise

7. Round Cape Horn – Ewan MacColl

8. The Royal Oak – Ray Harris

9. The Dockyard Gate – Ray Harris

10. Maid on the Shore – Frankie Armstrong

11. Warlike Seamen – Peter Bellamy

12. The Still and Silent Ocean – Watersons

13. The Man O’ War – Mike Waterson

I also encourage you to have a singalong to such classics as Row Row Row Your Boat and What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor! Although probably much alcohol would be required first!

Pirate Party Food

The food you create for your party will depend much on your budget. You can go large or keep it small, it is up to you. Consider some of the following ideas:

1. Sandwiches cut into boat shapes and with the Jolly Roger flag on a toothpick stuck in of course.

2. Many of the old pirates were of English origin, becoming banished from the Mother country and turning to piracy. An old stereotype is that the English sailors would take many a lime to cure his scurvy. This is of course where the nickname “limeys” came from. You should have cut limes as appetizers for your guests to suck on.

3. Squid will make an ideal appetizer too. How about making the delicious calamari with dip.

4. How about an appetizer of the typical Caribbean fruits such as coconut, pineapple and mango. You should make a delicious looking platter with skewers for your guests to make their own cocktail. Have you ever tried BBQ’d skewed fruit? It is delicious, you can also dip it in cream afterwards.

5. If you are creative then perhaps you can make pirate ship hot dogs. This will be very easy to do and don’t forget to stick a mini Jolly Roger in.

Pirate Party Drinks

The adults at the pirate theme party should be drinking rum. How about rum and coke? If you don’t drink then you should at least drink whatever you’re having from old rum bottles. However, i strongly advise you to make up some kind of a rum punch. How delicious.

I hope you enjoy your pirate theme party! Setting everything up and preparing for lots of people arriving all at once can be an extremely nerve racking experience and you’ll want everything to go amazingly well as people remember parties for a very long time. There are many party planning guides available to buy but there is one guide specifically for theme parties which I highly recommend! It covers absolutely everything from setting up, receiving your guests, things to do during the party and so much more! You will find a link to this guide in the side bar. Best of luck and have fun!
